Governance & Internal Capacity Building
Governance
Projects, as they evolve, often need to expand the governance components in their environmental, social and governance (ESG) frameworks. HEC drafts policies and protocols that clarify the roles and responsibilities of staff, managers, boards and external stakeholders. This process can identify governance gaps and form the basis for management planning measures.
Training
Projects need to keep their staff current on evolving best practice. In some contexts, site-based staff need training to report on their activities in line with corporate requirements. HEC provides formal training in group session as well as direct capacity building for staff implementing social programming. Group sessions are often focussed on the basics of best practice, covering:
- IFC Performance Standards on Environmental and Social Sustainability
- World bank Operating Standards
- Equator Principles
Capacity building is often focussed on:
- Monitoring how-to’s
- Grievance management
- Resettlement negotiation
- Use of databases
- Use of other stakeholder engagement tools
- Gender and inclusion
